MUSCLE SHOALS, AL (WAFF) - Leaders in the Shoals have selected a new air service provider for Northwest Regional Airport. Officials selected SeaPort Airlines, an Oregon-based airline, to provide daily flights from Muscle Shoals to Nashville International Airport.

According to Shoals leaders, the costs of the flights will range from $39 to $99. Airport officials will now work with SeaPort Airlines to create a contract.

Airport director Barry Griffith said he's excited about the new partnership and the new market in Nashville.

The decision to select a new service provider comes on the heels of Silver Airways discontinuing service in the Shoals and the airports not meeting their requirements in the essential air service program.

SeaPort is an Oregon-based airline and will provide four daily flights to Nashville.

Barry Griffith said once customers make it to Nashville the possibilities are endless for direct flights across the country.

"The business traveler can go to Nashville and come back the same day," he said. "We're actually looking to partner with Southwest Airlines as well as a low cost alternative to other nearby airports, so we're excited that we have a new market in Nashville - it's growing and we think this will be a good partnership between us and SeaPort Airlines."

Officials hope to see SeaPort begin service this fall.
