VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, CA (NASA/CNN) - After about a 24-hour delay NASA's orbiting Carbon Observatory 2 satellite blasted into space Wednesday morning.

Vandenberg Air Force base in California released images.

The mission is the first of its kind to study climate change.

The satellite will track the dynamics of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, both where it comes from and where it's absorbed.

Tuesday's launch was scrubbed due to an issue with the water suppression system.
