MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Jackson County deputies are working hard, trying to stop a rash of burglaries on the north end of the county.

Burglary reports have come in from the Flat Rock, Higdon and Bryant areas. Sheriff Chuck Phillips said it's something they have not seen in that area in the last seven years.

While the burglaries have trickled into the Flat Rock area, the Bryant community is considered hardest-hit. Phillips said the burglaries started in late May and have increased into June.

15 burglaries have been reported in Jackson County within that time period. By comparison, there was only one reported in DeKalb County.

Sheriff Philips said they are daytime burglaries, where someone goes and knocks on the door. If no one is home, they break in. He said people in the area need to pay attention to strangers just stopping by.

"They may not have a tag number, but at least somebody, more than likely, has talked to them," he said.

If someone notices any unusual vehicles in the area or a suspicious stranger comes to the door, they are asked to call the Sheriff's Department immediately.
