A Marshall County viewer that contacted us about receiving an incorrect absentee ballot is not the only one experiencing the same issue. Incorrect ballots were sent to about a half-dozen people.

Thousands of people were shuffled from the voting locations they were used to before the June primaries because of redistricting. Election officials said there was also a failure to update ballot styles.

Of the 57 people voting absentee so far in Marshall County, officials said the problem is isolated to six people who requested ballots for the Boaz Recreation Center polling location.

Two people already voted in the absentee box, and officials said those people were notified and have re-voted. The other four ballots had not been sent in, but the voters who received those incorrect ballots have been notified and sent the correct ballot to complete.

The problem was discovered Friday after a voter had requested an absentee ballot.

"They sent it and I marked it, and – ‘Wait a minute, there's one race that's not on here,'" said voter Bill Goss. "I called the Board of Registrars and they said they would check into it. They called me back the next day and said there was an error."

Officials believe the error has been fully corrected, however it's not a bad idea to check your absentee ballot when you receive it.

"The only question I have is, how many marked their ballot without paying attention to it?" said Goss. "That could affect a race."

Election officials said they isolated the problem and made all the necessary corrections. To address lingering concerns, they will invite Republican and Democratic polling inspectors to oversee the count from the absentee box.
