LEIGHTON, AL (WAFF) -
Authorities in Colbert County are investigating a pharmacy burglary that happened early Tuesday morning.
Police said the suspect tried to break in to Leighton Pharmacy around 3 a.m. Tuesday. After trying to kick in a side door, police said the offender threw a flower pot through the front window. The suspect allegedly ransacked the inside of the store and stole an old checkbook to a closed account.
A Colbert County deputy was on the scene when the suspect tried to escape by throwing a monitor through a side window.
Christopher Alexander, 20, was taken into custody and transferred to the Colbert County Jail.
The store's owner said he hopes this arrest will deter any future break-ins.
"Every time I come down here like today, I have two windows to replace, a door lock to replace. I'll be out $500-1,000 without the drugs being taken," said owner Rodney Logan. "It is a nuisance, an extreme nuisance."
It is unclear if Alexander was involved in the most recent burglary at the pharmacy, which happened in May.
