FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

President Obama said he is tired of waiting on Congress to change immigration policy. The President said he decided to take executive action after House Speaker John Boehner said he won't vote on a comprehensive bill this year.

Obama is asking Congress to approve a $2-billion emergency fund to increase border security and assistance.

Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks said it's about time President Obama stepped up to handle the immigration problem. He said there are laws on the books passed by Congress and signed by presidents permitting the Commander in Chief to secure our borders and handle the immigration system.

Rep. Brooks said he is all for action over inaction, but if Obama would have obeyed our immigration laws from the beginning, there would be no immigration issues to discuss.

"The President has been, in effect, using American tax dollars to encourage people to come to America by promising them free food, free clothing, free shelter, free healthcare and in some instances free transportation around the United States," Brooks said. "And then the President scratches his head and wonders why so many people from other nations are violating our border security and coming to America? It's because he's using a huge carrot instead of a stick."

Brooks went on to say the missing link in the country's immigration law is a president who will enforce laws that are already there.
