To either keep or fire Carol Wicks as Director of Animal Services will be a decision made by the city council. If it comes to that, it would be put on a Decatur City Council meeting agenda for further review. So far, it is not on the agenda for their next meeting on Sep 2. If the issue comes before the city council, that's when we hope to find out why Mayor Kyle decided to put Wicks on paid administrative leave. He will not comment on it, saying he cannot talk about a pending personnel issue. ELKMONT, AL (WAFF) -

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) approved plans to clean up an illegal Limestone County dump site.

According to the county commission's plan, work will begin within five days of getting approval, which was given Friday.

The plan states all demolition debris will be removed from the site and transported to a landfill within 14 days, weather permitting. Restoration of the land at the site will be done two weeks after all debris is gone.

The dump is located off of Leggtown Road in Elkmont. The county moved debris from the L&S Shopping Center there, without authorization from ADEM. The debris caught fire in late April and continued burning for nearly two months.

People who live in the area said they are concerned that the debris contains asbestos.
