HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

School leaders at a Huntsville elementary school are showing their support for the school board's rezoning plan.

Monte Sano Elementary PTA and Monte Sano Civic Association sent letters to federal judge Madeline Hughes Haikala.

Both letters point out what the authors call unsafe routes which school buses would have to travel if Haikala chooses the DOJ's rezoning plan over the school board's plan.

Haikala will decide if the school system can move forward with their proposed changes and she hopes to have a decision by July. If she rules in the district's favor, this could open the door for the district to gain unitary status.
