HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The man who said he was uninvited from giving an invocation at a Huntsville City Council meeting said he is willing to settle the difference outside of court.

Blake Kirk, priest of the Oak, Ash and Thorn Tradition of Wicca, was invited to give the invocation at the Huntsville City Council meeting Thursday. He said he was uninvited when word got out he is Wiccan.

Kirk said the moment that happened, his religious rights were violated – but he said he is open to talking out the problem with council.

"If we can come up with an agreement, that would serve everyone's interests better than fighting it out in court," Kirk said.

He said that while others have mentioned legal options to him, the resolution he wants would be another invitation to give the invocation at the council meeting. He said he would accept the invitation if offered.

In the past year, there have been a number of different religious affiliations represented at the opening invocation. Presbyterian, Baptist, Jewish and non-denominational groups have all appeared before the council.

Blake Kirk previously offered the invocation at the city council meeting January 23.
