Drowning reported at High Falls Park

GERALDINE, AL (WAFF) -

A drowning was reported out of DeKalb County.

The Sheriff's Department confirmed one child drowned at High Falls Park around 5 p.m. According to Sheriff Jimmy Harris, the victim was a 16-year-old boy from Union Grove.

Officials said the boy was swimming with friends at High Falls Park. They said he jumped into the water, went under, and didn't come back up.

The boy's girlfriend reportedly jumped in to try to rescue the boy, but wasn't successful. Another girl jumped in to help, and she hurt her hip.

The injured girl was taken to the hospital. The boy's body was taken to the forensic lab in Huntsville.
