HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Tennessee Valley Veteran is getting a new home. Jeff Benton Homes partnered with Operation Finally Home to surprise U.S. Marine Corps Corporal Brandon Johnson with a new place to call home.

"Yeah, they surprised us for sure," said Johnson. "It's getting more real, but it's still kind of hard to grasp on to all the feelings and stuff going through our heads."

Johnson and his family were stunned to learn that they will soon move into a brand new, mortgage-free home.

Benton Homes broke ground on the first ever Operation Finally Home build in Alabama. Jeff Benton said he learned about the non-profit organization last fall, and he knew right away it was something he wanted to be a part of.

"In this area, the military and all they do, it's huge," said Benton. "We're forever grateful for the sacrifices they make. And not only that but they mean so much to our community."

"Compared to any other area this is probably the most patriotic place I've been," said Johnson.

Benton Homes and Operation Finally Home have collected most of the money needed to build the Johnson's new home. Building will begin in a couple of weeks, and the move-in date is set for November 11 - Veterans Day.
