MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Marshall County deputy fired for using excessive force on a handcuffed prisoner lost his appeal Thursday.

A copy of the Marshall County Personnel board's decision (PDF) shows that by a 3-1 vote, the board voted to uphold the sheriff's decision to fire deputy Steven Alexander.

The board made their decision after hearing six hours of testimony over an April 22 incident where a man being transported to a mental health facility was roughed up while handcuffed after trying to get away from authorities.

The detainee, Devin Kimsey, claimed he suffered injuries including rocks embedded in his forehead and damage to an eye.
