Jefferson County authorities say that no evidence to explain why a woman was left on the side of I-65 was found in her recovered vehicle.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Sgt. Jack Self said that Birmingham police recovered the vehicle of Jennifer Leigh Butler, 28, of Huntsville, around 10:45 a.m. Thursday at 15th Street and 2nd Avenue North.

Jefferson County authorities processed the vehicle for evidence in Butler's death but found nothing to advance their investigation. Huntsville police have been notified of the findings.

On Monday, June 16, a stranded motorist spotted Butler's body on the side of I-65 just south of exit 271, between Walkers Chapel Road and Fieldstown Road.

Detectives believe her body was dumped on the side of the interstate after she had already died.

The coroner's office said that Butler's body had no signs of trauma. She was found wearing only spandex pants, a bra and a Six Flag wrist band. Butler's mother said she had gone to Six Flags on Tuesday, June 10.

The sheriff's office said Butler had been visiting friends in Birmingham on Friday, June 13. She was seen driving her car in Bessemer on Friday, June 13.

That was the last time anyone heard from her, according to Self.

Police determined Butler last used her ATM card in Bessemer the evening of Friday, June 13. The ATM camera captured a photo of her and a black male getting money out on Friday evening.

Self said she did not appear to be under any duress at the time the ATM photo was taken, but that doesn't mean she wasn't.

The sheriff's office wants to speak with the man in the photo.

Butler's mom filed a missing persons report with the Huntsville Police Department on Sunday, June 16.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
