DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Kristin Burnett is a busy wife and mother whose healthy lifestyle for her family is on Facebook, so other moms can share and benefit.

Like other moms, when her first child was born, she wanted him to have the best of everything.

"When I had my first, I nursed him for a while and then I made his baby food because I had a big garden and to me it's a lot easier than people might think," Burnett said.

Burnett said she was a lot more cautious with her first child, 5-year-old Afton, using simple ingredients in the recipes. Like most parents, with the addition of children like Evelyn and Weldon, the less persnickety she becomes.

"But I think maybe now with my third... I mean, he eats off the floor and we have dogs and you just kind of let some things go because you realize it doesn't really matter and they're going to survive," she said.

When it comes to food, she wants the real deal. That's why she's into canning and making her own bread.

"I don't really believe in an actual diet, like a low-carb or a low-sugar or a low-fat. I just believe in eating real foods. Part of cooking is making a mess - I'm very good at that part. That's why I always let my dogs in here," Burnett said.

She believes it's all in moderation and reading labels. She doesn't stop for a computer. The Facebook page is moderated by phone. She said she launched the page after so many people asked her to share her recipes.

She also wants to see her kids get plenty of play time exercise outside. That helps with a regimented sleep time.

"Naps are my best friend," she said. "If my children didn't take naps, I would get nothing accomplished ."
