After a month's delay, the serial bank robber dubbed the "Ball Cap Bandit" was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison Wednesday.

Cedrick Hicks pleaded guilty to robbing 11 banks in Alabama and one in Tennessee. He was supposed to be sentenced in May but he filed a motion to postpone it. The original hearing was scheduled for April but was set back due to weather.

Hicks was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison for his crimes. The judge found an error in the pre-sentencing report, reducing the sentence by several months. Originally, the report recommended 108-135 months in prison.

Since a gun was never found, that dropped the recommended sentence.

During the sentencing hearing, Hicks apologized to his victims and family.

"I want to be the man my family can be proud of," he said.

Hicks was dubbed the "Ball Cap Bandit" after security cameras from each bank showed him wearing a ball cap during most of the hold-ups.

Along with the prison sentence, the judge ordered Hicks to pay more than $63,000 in restitution to the banks.
