HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

WAFF 48 News is pleased to announce the release of an upgrade to our news app for smartphones and tablets.

Don't worry: The WAFF News app remains a FREE news, weather and sports app featuring local stories from WAFF 48 News.

But in addition to the multiple features you've enjoyed with the previous versions of our apps, including breaking news alerts, LIVE streaming newscasts and traffic information, we have updated our app to give you access to new functionality and more features.

You can now easily share stories from the WAFF News app on Facebook and Twitter, directly from your phone. And if you like photos and images, you can now view featured slideshows inside the app.

Another improvement - video is now easily accessible with the text of any story that has video available, just like it is on a desktop browser.

And a new feature we'll be taking advantage of soon is the ability to sign up for different types of news alerts. Next month, you'll be able to choose what you'd like to be alerted about - if it's just breaking news, or if you also want sports, traffic and programming alerts, just to name a few.

If you have the most recent version of iOS on your iPhone or iPad or the most recent version of the Android operating system, your app may automatically update to the new version of the WAFF News app.

Or if you chose not to automatically update your app, you can check for the update now. Just search for "WAFF" in your app store. It should let you know if there's an update available.

The updated mobile version of our website will be launching very soon, and it was built with most of the same features that our new apps have.
