HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville leaders have a big week in store for the city's future development.

On Tuesday,  bids on construction plans for the former downtown Holiday Inn hotel are due. Huntsville City Administrator John Hamilton said bids will have to address mixed use space. The city is requiring a plan for residential space like apartments, more lodging and hotel rooms, spots for retail shops, and restaurants.

We won't treat it frivolously," said Hamilton. "If they're not good proposals than we're not going to do it. That land is owned by the city which means it's owned by the taxpayers."

The city is also asking citizens to voice their ideas for plans at Ditto Landing. The city's riverfront space is an area the city wants to develop. The city has looked at plans that include restaurants, expanded greenways, and even a mountain bike track. City of Huntsville Urban and Long Range Planning's Dennis Madsen wants any citizen with an idea to show up to the Tuesday night event.

"A lot of folks have had a vision for something that could happen down there, but we've never managed to put it all together," said Madsen.

The meeting is from 6-7:30pm, Tuesday, at Ditto Landing.
