Athens duo arrested for accepting pot through mail

ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

Athens police arrested two people after postal inspectors intercepted a package containing approximately $9,000 worth of marijuana.

The package, which contained three pounds of marijuana, was addressed to a home on Hoffman Street. After the package was delivered to the address on Friday, investigators served a search warrant.

Investigators seized several handguns and a rifle from the home, as well as a ledger, pot-related magazines, a marijuana grinder, vacuum-sealing equipment and several electronic devices.

Leigh Ann Boggs was arrested at the scene and charged with trafficking marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Brett Wade Taylor turned himself in to the police department later Friday night. He was arrested and charged with trafficking and unlawful possession.

Investigators with the Limestone County Sheriff's Office, the Alabama Beverage Control Board and the U.S. Postal Service assisted Athens police in the case.
