RUSSELLVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Jury selection for the competency hearing of a man accused of murder started Monday at noon at the Franklin County Courthouse.

The Franklin County District Attorney ordered a mental evaluation for Michael McLemore after he was accused of shooting and killing his dad and step mom and attacking his aunt and uncle with a hammer in Sept. 2011 in Phil Campbell.

The results of that evaluation have not been released. Both sides agreed to let a jury hear the evidence of those reports and determine if he can stand trial.

He was charged with two counts of capital murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Prosecutors said McLemore pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. He was previously examined by his defense team's psychiatrist, but they did not know his findings.

Opening statements are expected to begin Tuesday.
