TALLAPOOSA CO., AL (WSFA) -

A Birmingham man is dead after police say he drowned while swimming in Lake Martin on Saturday.

Alabama Marine Police say that 58-year-old Mark James Ajluni died after he drowned in the Sandy Creek area of Lake Martin, which is in the Dadeville area.

According to police, a witness told them that Ajluni was swimming to an island on the lake, at about 1:45 p.m., when he turned around to come back to the witnesses dock. The witness then stated that is when Ajluni went under water, resurfaced for a few seconds and then went under again. That was the last time that Ajluni was seen by the witness.

A diver from the Tallapoosa County Rescue Squad recovered Ajluni's body. The Alabama Marine Police, Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Department and Dadeville Police Department also assisted in the recovery.

That is all the information that is available at this time. We will update you when we learn more.
