ARAB, AL (WAFF) -

One person was sent to the hospital and his roommate in custody after a shooting Friday afternoon in Arab. It happened just after 2 p.m. on Fairview Drive.

Arab Police said that 62-year-old Jon Charles Owens was charged with attempted murder. They said Owens used a handgun to shoot the victim, 73-year-old William Patrick McCoy. Neighbors reported that Owens came out with his hands up as soon as police arrived.

McCoy was transported to Huntsville Hospital after being shot in the rear shoulder area. The alleged shooter's wife, Pam Owens, said she is unsure what broke the china cabinet  in the kitchen where the shooting took place, but that she tried to get to her husband before he could fire his .357 handgun, but was too late.

Owens felt her husband was frustrated with life dealing with the advanced stages of cirrhosis. She said he hadn't had anything to drink in the last year until Friday. McCoy's injuries were non-life-threatening, and was sent home not long after his admittance.

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
