Gas prices on the rise for the summer season

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

According to AAA, the unrest in Iraq is pushing U.S. gasoline prices to unusually high prices for this time of year. This increase comes during the height of the summer travel season.

The national average is $3.67 per gallon, which is the highest price for this time of year since 2008 when gas hit an all time high.

The energy markets get spooked any time there's uncertainty. The bad news is one of Iraq's biggest refinery has been attacked by ISIS forces. This is one big reason gas prices in this country are heading higher.

Oil analyst Patrick Dehann says, "The concern is that violence would threaten exports which is what's behind the increase in oil prices, and thus increase in gasoline prices."

Gasoline prices typically fall in the weeks between Memorial Day and the Forth of July. The good news is analyst don't expect prices to reach $4.00 per gallon as they did 6 years ago.

Here in Alabama the current average is $3.43 a gallon which is still below what we were paying one month ago- $3.50 a gallon.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
