MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Marshall County deputy is appealing his termination following an incident in which a detainee claimed he was assaulted while handcuffed.

A due process hearing began Thursday night for former deputy Steven Alexander.

Alexander was terminated after allegations made by Devin Kimsey, who said he was assaulted while being detained by Alexander.

Kimsey claims he suffered injuries including rocks embedded in his forehead and damage to an eye. Kimsey was being transported to a mental facility when he kicked out a cruiser window.

Alexander was alleged to have punched Kimsey in the face and applied his knee to the back of Kimsey's head while he was on the ground.
