MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) - Some on the Shelby County Commission feel like Commissioner Henri Brooks should resign.

And now, at least one commissioner plans to bring that very motion up during next month's meeting.

"I think she should resign, and I think we'll have to replace her, and we need to get on with that replacement," said former Shelby County Commission Chair Mike Ritz, in a bombshell announcement Thursday.

"Actually the way we have to do this is we just have to schedule a process for her replacement," Ritz said.

Commissioner Ritz says he tried to put Brooks' resignation up before Thursday's called meeting, but commission chair James Harvey wouldn't allow it on the agenda.

The normally outspoken Brooks has been under fire recently for not saying anything about her recent arrest on simple assault charges, with the exception of a written statement.

Now, some commissioners are questioning whether Henri Brooks actually lives in the district she represents.

"There's no question she doesn't live in her district," Ritz said. "We don't have to prove that. She can't prove she lives in her district. Have you heard any proof from her?"

Meanwhile, commissioner Brooks defended herself in Thursday's meeting saying, "There is no basis, no authority for any of this discussion."

The next full meeting of the county commission won't take place until July 7.
