HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Madison County woman was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the killing of her husband.

A judge also ordered Karla Chapman to pay a $10,000 fine.

Chapman was found guilty in April for the murder of her husband, Johnathan Elliff.

Prosecutors said Chapman stabbed Elliff to death after the two fought over money.

Chapman's father addressed the court at the sentencing hearing on Thursday and said the murder wasn't intentional. He told the judge that his daughter was drunk at the time of the murder.

Chapman also addressed the judge. In tears, Chapman said she had to fight for her life.

The victim's mother read a letter to Chapman and told her, "you took my only baby."
