Police say that two suspects are in custody following a shooting on Canal Street near Bourbon.

Officers say that a 23-year-old woman was shot around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of Canal Street near Bourbon.

Police say that Niya Harris, 21, and Sade Bardell, 21, were arguing with a victim at the scene. Officers say that Bardell grabbed a handgun from Harris and waved it around. As the crown began to disperse, authorities say Harris made threatening statements and took the handgun back.

Harris shot in the direction of the victim, police say, striking her in the leg. The suspects fled the scene.

Harris and Bardell were arrested on Thursday for their roles in the shooting.
