Three people died when an airplane ran off the runway at Huntsville International Airport, caught on fire, and crashed near a fence.
According to the FAA, a Westwind II aircraft ran off the right side of Runway 18Right while attempting to depart from the airport at 2:25 p.m.
The aircraft caught on fire, sending smoke into the air.
Three people were on board. They have not been identified.
Right now, the destination of the aircraft is unknown. The FAA will investigate and NTSB will determine probable cause.
Huntsville Police, Madison County Sheriff's Office, HEMSI and other emergency crews are on the scene. The airport also responded with fire trucks.
One flight has been diverted from the airport. Travelers should check flight statuses on the airport's website.
County Line Road is closed in both directions as crews work the scene. Drivers should use an alternate route.
