MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) – Cordova neighbors are reacting after their quiet neighborhood became a crime scene when an altercation ended in a deadly shooting.

The shooting happened in the 500 Block of South Sanga Road.

Police identify the victim as 33-year-old Jeffrey Roth, who was shot and killed in a driveway across the street from his house.

Police say they know who shot Roth and that he is not going to jail.

Together, the children on South Sanga are just trying to beat the heat.

"It's different because we don't have those kinda of things here," said Judie Gundrum. "This is a real safe neighborhood. The kids are awesome. They play together. Everybody kinda watches out for everybody else's kids. You know you don't even think about things like that happening here."

Around 11 p.m. Tuesday night, neighbor Breanna Ellis had just settled in with a Harry Potter book.

"I heard a dog barking, and I heard the two shots. One right after the other, and I thought maybe someone had shot a dog," said Ellis.

Police say two neighbors got in a fight that ended with one shot dead.

Homicide investigators have not released what started the fight, but say they conferred with prosecutors and "it was determined that no criminal charges will be filed at this point."

WMC Action News 5 knocked on the doors of the houses where the people who were involved lived, but no one answered at either. MPD says this case remains under investigation.
