NEW MARKET, AL (WAFF) -

Quick actions by two neighbors likely saved a woman's life after a Madison County apartment unit went up in flames.

It happened around 8 p.m. Sunday evening at a complex on Billy Smith Road in New Market.

Fire crews from New Market and Mooresville were called to the scene. One apartment was completely gutted by the flames.

According to authorities, a mother and son kicked in the door to the apartment to pull out a woman who was trapped inside. The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

A dog that was in the apartment reportedly died.

Investigators are working to determine a cause of the blaze.
