HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville's Elk Lodge held a Flag Day ceremony on Saturday.

Bob Jones was a World War 2 veteran who led the Pledge of Allegiance at the ceremony. It was held at Veterans Memorial Park in Huntsville. He said it's a day to remember when our country first adopted our flag back in 1777.

"Flag Day is another day of celebration of the greatness of our country," said Jones. "Goes way back to the formation of this country."

Madison Mayor Troy Trulock was also on hand at the ceremony.

"It's nice to see our community come together to remember and to recognize our American flag, and continue to pass that on to the generations," said Trulock. "We have been recognizing and celebrating for 237 years. I hope we go on for another 237."

"I think America is the greatest country in the world," said Jones. "That's why I am proud to be an American."
