(WMC) - ANDY, WILL IT WORK? Tornado Can Opener = WISE BUY!

This nifty little gadget, $20, easily and cleanly sheared the lids off five sizes of cans -- from stubby cans of tuna fish to oversized cans of white hominy.

It is not, however, the "faster" can opener as advertised. Robin Stafford of River City Balloons (Facebook) beat it in every time-trial with my trusty manual can opener.

But even though Stafford was faster with the standard opener, I just pressed a button, stood back and watched the Tornado work.

Its most impressive feature is the very reason why Stafford and her son Eric broke out the balloons for us.

The Tornado's patented cutting design bites directly into the rim of a can. The result is a clean edge that doesn't slice fingers.

To prove it, Eric rubbed a balloon along the edge of a can opened with the standard opener.

POP!

I rubbed a balloon along the edge of the same type of can, but it was opened with the Tornado opener. Even with constant pressure and continuous rubbing, the can's smooth edge would not burst my balloon.

That means the Tornado Can Opener won't burst your bubble.

"You wouldn't worry about if a child picked it up, that they might cut themselves," Robin Stafford said. "I think especially someone who might have some arthritis in their hands might find it very easy. It's a Wise Buy!"

It may not be the faster option, but the Tornado Can Opener is indeed the easier and safer option.
