HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - After deliberating for nearly five hours, a Madison County jury found former middle school teacher, Brett Naff, guilty on two counts of sodomy.

A former student brought allegations against Naff in 2012. He worked as a teacher at The Country Day School in Huntsville.

During the trial, witnesses testified about Naff's behavior with the victim and other students.

The victim testified on Tuesday and described the alleged sexual encounters with Naff. She said she didn't report the alleged abuse sooner because she said she wouldn't be able to return to the private school or play soccer.

After the verdict was read, the victim's family and other supporters of the  prosecution shared hugs and tears. As for Naff, he showed very little emotion as he emptied his pockets and was placed in handcuffs.

For Christine Wadley, the relief ran deep. Her son, Nicholas, was one of Naff's students. He took the stand and told the jury about he verbal abuse he said he suffered daily.

"I am very thankful this is over with," said Nicholas. "The truth came out. That's all that matters, he is not going to be able to verbally abuse or physically abuse anyone ever again."

"Brett Naff is not only a child molester, he is a bully," said Prosecutor Tim Gann.

Gann said the jury got this right, and said while there wasn't a lot of physical evidence, the witness statements were strong.

"It is not easy to come to a trial, and in a room full of people telling about one of the most awful things that could ever happen. It takes a lot of courage, and she was up to the task" said Gann, referring to the victim. "She has been living in fear of this man for years and years, and I think just the relief to know that he is behind bars, that she is safe, I think her overwhelming emotion was just joy and relief."

Naff will be sentenced in July. We could not get in touch with Defense Attorney Bruce Gardner for a comment.
