BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Alabama Republican Party Chairman said voter fraud was committed in the June 3 primary and he has the evidence to prove it.

It all started with party leaders posting signs around the state encouraging voters to report suspicious activity at the polls.

"As a result we've gotten a number of calls from folks that thought they were witnessing something that they thought were fraud. So we are following up on that and we in fact have some instances of fraud that have been committed," said Alabama Republican Chairman Bill Armistead.

What those instances are Armistead wouldn't go into too many specifics, but did offer a few examples.

"We've seen a number things that where folks are deceased that also voted absentee, and that's really tough to do," Armistead said.

A spokesperson for the Alabama Secretary of State told FOX6 News they too have had cases of suspected voter fraud reported directly to them. The office provides voters a website and a toll free number to contact them.

Armistead explains why the Alabama GOP felt it necessary to start up their own hotline.

"We just felt it needed to be more proactive. So this is not a criticism of anybody," said Armistead.

As far as any political motivations? Armistead said that's not the case.

"We had more democrats contacting us last week than republicans about voter fraud," Armistead said.
