The suspect in a hostage situation inside a Lawrenceburg pharmacy surrendered to authorities Thursday evening.

Police said the man, armed with a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, took the pharmacist at the CVS Pharmacy hostage after Lawrenceburg police attempted a traffic stop.

Security at Walmart had spotted the man, identified as 36-year-old Robert Chad Dillon, of Lawrenceburg, in a bathroom after allegedly shoplifting inside the store. When security noticed the suspect had a gun, they notified police.

Police were en route to the Walmart when they encountered the suspect and attempted a traffic stop.

Dillon pulled into the CVS parking lot, located at the intersection of U.S. Highways 43 and 64, and entered the business with a handgun. He demanded drugs from the pharmacist.

Several customers and employees were inside the building when Dillon entered.

Police found Dillon behind the pharmacy counter with a gun in his hand when they entered the building.

Police were able to disarm Dillon after the standoff, which lasted over an hour, and take him into custody.

No one was injured during the standoff.

Police charged Dillon with aggravated robbery. He could face several other charges.

He is being held in the Lawrence County Jail without bond. He's set to appear in Lawrence County General Sessions court on Sept. 4.
