JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A pursuit that started in Huntsville and ended in Jackson County tested the mettle of at least five different law enforcement agencies that had to communicate amongst one another in order to apprehend the suspect.

Officials said the driver of a stolen Edible Arrangements van, David Wessley Carter, eventually gave himself up., but not after eluding Huntsville Police and State Troopers among other law enforcement agencies. He drove over a spike strip at some point in the pursuit, but managed to cross into Jackson County.

Carter faces multiple charges in both counties.

Jackson County Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen said communication is key - getting real-time information out to officers in the field about the ever-changing location of a suspect vehicle.

Some departments use digital transmissions, while others use older analog methods, and that creates extra work for dispatchers.

Harnen said the most helpful information is what road the vehicle is on, the direction they are headed, and any turns it makes.
