HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A group of 11 freshmen from Johnson High School spent two weeks touring top colleges in the Northeast.

The tour is part of Huntsville City Schools' Cap and Gown Project. Most of the students said the trip exposed them to places and school they would have never considered.

"It feels great because when you're young you never thought of yourself experiencing big cities like New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC," said student Brandon Crosby. "It was just a great experience for me."

The trip was funded through donations of more than $20,000. Organizers plan to continue the project next year with even more students.
