KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

A shoplifting suspect made her escape while wielding an ax.

Neighbors say it played out like a scene in a movie - a woman swinging an ax at an employee outside the Dollar General at East 74th Street and Prospect Avenue.

It became even scarier when she headed towards the house of a family who lives across the street.

"I saw the associate chasing her out the store trying to catch her and she tried to hop the pole and she swung at him with the ax," said Tiesha Gentry.

Gentry caught it all on her cell phone. Her video shows a woman allegedly caught stealing inside the Dollar General. When asked to return the stuff, she returned with an ax out of her purse instead.

"If she would have hit somebody with it, it would have been through," Cyesha Gentry said. "It was an ax."

"Who walks around with an ax? Who does that? That's some crazy stuff," Kyesha Gentry said.

The three sisters had some guests over outside when they said the woman started moving towards them, and that's when things got scary.

"She started to get mad and swinging her ax like, ‘You all are going to let me in' like this and try and come up in our house and hide," Tiesha Gentry said. "It was pretty much a devastating moment for the children."

The Gentry sisters said the woman then ran, ax still in hand, trying to board the KCATA metro bus. That's when they stepped in to stop her.

"We knew police was on their way so we was like, 'Let's just stay on her trail,'" Tiesha Gentry said.

"When I tried to block her, she swung the ax across my face and I felt the wind going across my face and was like, 'Whoa, I'll back up because I'm not trying to get hit with no ax or nothing,'" Kyesha Gentry said.

"I'm happy she's locked up, you know," Cyesha Gentry said.

The sisters who tried to stop the woman say they are thankful no one was hurt. Aline Rembert is charged with robbery and armed criminal action. She's being held on a $100,000 bond.
