MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Preparing in advance of severe weather can help you stay alive. With the recent string of severe weather hitting the Tennessee Valley, some residents have become concerned with their safety.

Morgan County Emergency Management Agency Director Eddie Hicks gave a presentation to residents at Presbyterian Towers. His talk included safety and preparation tips.

Hicks said you should always have a weather radio to inform you when severe weather watches and warnings are issued. You should also know where to take shelter. Hicks also said you should have a bag packed with food, water and medicine ready to go.

"We recommend you have a source of dollars – money, not credit cards – because you really need cash if all of your ATMS are down," said Hicks.

Contact your local EMA office if you want information on nearby shelters or if you are interested in attending a weather protection seminar.
