MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) - It was a drug search warrant that resulted in the discovery of two stolen assault rifles.

Residents living on Maple Drive at Jackson Avenue learned that not only was a man holed up for two hours on Monday, causing a barricade situation, but they also learned that police found two assault rifles in the house; both were stolen from a Cordova Walmart in February.

"We came out to find out what was going on. The officer came out and told us to go back in the house because there may be shooting," said one neighbor.

Narcotics detectives were serving a search warrant at the house on Maple Drive when they spotted Rodenick Winston, 24, in a crawl space. Investigators say Winston fired at the officers, but eventually gave up peacefully.

Four suspects were detained for questioning; Winston was arrested.

Neighbors say the men who lived in the house moved there three or four months ago, and that they did not know anything about them.

In February, thieves walked into the 24-hour Walmart in Cordova around 1:30 a.m. and swiped six assault rifles and an additional weapon from a glass display.

Police say the rifles, both valued at $1,000, were hidden in a crawl space at the home on Maple.

Residents in the neighborhood do not know what to think.

"It's kind of scary because we don't have that over here. We really don't. It's really a quiet neighborhood," noted another neighbor.

Police say no charges have been filed in connection with the weapons theft, and that it is an ongoing investigation.

However, an affidavit says Winston faces charges including theft of property over $1,000. It does not say what Winston allegedly stole.
