HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A new partnership will help Medicaid patients in North Alabama.

Huntsville Hospital has partnered with Sentara Health Systems. Huntsville Hospital CEO David Spillers said the board chose to pair with Sentara after the state decided to change Medicaid funding.

The state gave health care providers such as Huntsville Hospital a grant. The board decided they needed help to set up their system to help provide better care to Medicaid patients.

Spillers said Sentara brings a lot of tools and expertise to the table to help get the program going quickly.

"They've got 19 years of experience, IT systems, 7-day, 24-hour call centers; they've got methods and protocols that have been developed over time to better manage the people that are in Medicaid," said Spillers.

He said he hoped to have the system up and running by October of next year.
