Police: 5-year-old injured in shooting near ASU campus

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Montgomery Police Department has confirmed that the victim in Mondays shooting was a 5-year-old female.

Police responded to the shooting near the campus of Alabama State University on Monday night.

Investigators could not provide many details other than to say the shooting happened at 700 University Drive North.

Authorities say the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and there is not an update on the current condition of the victim.

Witnesses told WSFA 12 News they heard multiple shots and say a young child was the victim. A WSFA 12 News photojournalist recorded paramedics putting a small child into an ambulance.

No other information has been released as MPD is still investigating.
