4 people arrested after investigation into suspicious vehicles

LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department made four arrests after agents reportedly investigated two suspicious vehicles parked side-by-side at a closed business.

Sheriff Gene Mitchell said agents made contact with the occupants of both vehicles to find out why they were in the parking lot of the closed business. Mitchell said that when agents began to identify the occupants, they saw one occupant, Teresa Hames, had a bottle of Endocet pills next to her in the rear passenger seat, with 30 of the pills taken out of the recently filled prescription bottle.

Mitchell said when agents began remove one of the occupants from the vehicle to begin a canine search, he failed to comply with verbal commands and began to try and conceal contraband. Mitchell said that. Officials said one of the suspects tried to interfere with agents and was taken into custody.

According to Sheriff Mitchell, the canine search found a quantity of marijuana as well as un-opened cans of beer. Agents said that while trying to identify the occupants, one tried to pass herself off as a 75-year-old woman. Mitchell said after questioning the other occupants, they learned Hames' identity, and that she was wanted on a warrant from another agency.

Agents said they concluded Hames was in the process of separating the pills to conduct a transaction with the other three suspects. Sheriff Mitchell said that Hames was booked into the county jail on a $5,000 bond. Hames was arrested on one count of using a false identity to obstruct justice, one count of attempted distribution of a controlled substance, and one count of obstructing government operations.

Darrel Belvins was also arrested on one count of conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime, one count of possession of marijuana of the second degree, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count of illegal possession of prohibited liquor. Agents also arrested Rodney Queen on one count of conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime, one count of possession of marijuana of the second degree, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, one count of Illegal possession of prohibited liquor, and one count of obstructing government operations. Finally, Chadwick Heaps was arrested on one count of conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime, one count of possession of marijuana of the second degree, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, one count of illegal possession of prohibited liquor, one count of resisting arrest, and one count of obstructing government operations.

Belvins is being held on a $4,800 bond, Queen on a $5,800 bond, and Heaps on a $6,800 bond.
