ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Fire destroyed a house in Albertville Monday morning.

The fire started around 9 a.m. at a home on the 200 block of Dunn Drive. Crews from area fire departments including Douglas and Pleasant Grove assisted Albertville Fire crews in putting out the fire.

Firefighters said the home was fully engulfed when they arrived. Power to the home was cut. Fire department officials said the home was too far gone when they arrived, and it was a total loss, but they were able to make sure the fire did not spread to other buildings and property.

According to authorities, no one was home at the time of the fire, but there were concerns as they found two vehicles in the driveway when firefighters arrived.

Fire officials said rural fires like this one are especially hard to fight simply due to the lack of water availability.

"The biggest challenge today so far has been the water supply and where we're located at, how far we have to go to get to the water supply which is approximately a mile from here," said Albertville Fire Marshall Westley Bynum.

Officials said they do not know where the fire started, or if it is suspicious.
