LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A UNA football player was arrested for shoplifting and assaulting an officer.

Police said it happened around 7 p.m. Friday at the Florence Mall. Investigators said an off-duty officer stopped Stephen Levi Fell for shoplifting inside a store. According to authorities, Fell was being escorted to the loss prevention office when he hit the officer and ran off.

Other officers responding to the call saw Fell run across the parking lot and took him into custody.

According to UNA's Athletic website, Fell is a freshman defensive back from Muscle Shoals.

Fell was released on a $7,000 bond.
