Former state trooper, Navy vet faces judge on sex assault charges

A Windsor man and former state trooper faced a judge Monday on charges that he allegedly sexually assaulted an elderly woman.

According to Windsor Locks police, 43-year-old Jeffrey Laporto, of Windsor, met the victim, an 81-year-old woman, at a local bar. Police said a conversation ensued and Laporto followed the victim to a local hotel room at about 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Police said they received a call from the victim's son about two hours later reporting his mother had been sexually assaulted. Officers located the victim, who was then transported to a local hospital for treatment of extensive internal injuries.

Laporto's attorney said they met at the bar, had drinks, went back to the woman's hotel room and had consensual sex. His attorney also said there were witnesses and they can back up their case.

Laporto recently worked as a Connecticut state trooper, but he was terminated three years ago. Police and his attorney have not said why he lost his job. Laporto is also a Navy veteran and served in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield.

Repulsed residents of Windsor Locks were shocked to learn Laporto is accused of raping the woman.

"It's the last thing I would expect around here, I never heard of any violent crime happening here," said Alex Sorenson, who is a Windsor Locks resident.

"It's disgusting, I can't perceive that ever happening. It's sickening that it happened in our town," said Jeremy Kennedy.

Police conducted an investigation and were able to apprehend Laporto. He is charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of first-degree unlawful restraint.

"I can't even imagine the things going through that man's head. He's obviously very sick," Sorenson said.
