FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Florence police confirmed that a utilities worker was electrocuted while clearing debris on Thursday night.

Around 7:45 p.m., Christopher Williamson was clearing storm debris on Arlington Boulevard when he was electrocuted.

Williamson was working to restore power in the area off of Florence Boulevard. A tree fell during the storms, landing on some lines.

While he was working to clear the debris, Williamson came in contact with a 7,200 volt energized line.

"It was just a terrible accident, the city is at a great loss and we're all grieving and hurting at this time," said Florence Mayor Mickey Haddock.

Authorities said he was taken to ECM Hospital where he died.

Williamson had been an employee of Florence Utilities since 1993.
