TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

A new lab at the University of Alabama will work for law enforcement here and across the country to fight cyber crime. This lab is now getting support from Alabama Governor Robert Bentley. Governor Bentley is awarding a $60,000 grant to help the university get this new lab started.

The governor says with more and more of our transactions happening online, it is important to fight this threat. For instance, we've heard recently about these high profile cases where hackers steal millions of people's financial information from retailers. According to the governor's office, this lab will analyze cell phones, computer hard drives and even video game systems for digital evidence of cyber crimes.

This lab will use information they find to help law enforcement prosecute these cyber crime cases.
