HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Some Tennessee Valley students received special recognition Wednesday night for their appointment to a military academy.

Congressman Mo Brooks held a special reception for the 2014 Service Academy appointees at the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library.

12 students from North Alabama will be a part of the freshman class at West Point, the Air Force Academy and the Naval Academy.

Taylor Kelly said his appointment to West Point is a dream come true.

"It's just one of those special things," Kelly said. "Everybody talks about service but it's truly a service. I love our country, I love the rights that we're given; the freedom we have. I want to allow other people to have the same things that I've been given."

Kelly said he hopes to major in mechanical engineering.
