ELKMONT, AL (WAFF) -

Tuesday, Limestone County commissioners will talk about a plan to remove a pile of rubble that the Alabama Department of Environmental Management calls an illegal dumpsite.

People who live near Leggtown Road in Elkmont said the pile of debris is making people sick.

ADEM officials came out to inspect the site and are taking action to get rid of it.

"The environmentalist came out and said there's asbestos, insulation and tar," said one neighbor. "It's going to affect the water. It's probably already affected the water."

Residents said the pile is causing respiratory problems for people who live close, and one person is already in the hospital with pneumonia.

ADEM has given the county commission one month to come up with a plan to remove the dumpsite.
