Another Toledo carryout hit in series of armed robberies

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Police say there has been another robbery at a local carryout, the latest in a string of aggravated robberies since last month.

Just after 3 a.m. Monday, police say two suspects hit a carryout in the 2600 block of Airport Highway. According to police, the clerk was pistol whipped and assaulted by the two men.

Police say two males entered the cigarette outlet with their faces covered, demanding money. They got away with $2,000 from the register, but then hit the clerk with a gun and demanded he empty his pockets. That's when police say the two suspects roughed up the clerk.

"I wouldn't let him reach in my pocket, so we started fighting. It felt like several minutes me and him fighting. After that, he started hitting me with the gun," said the store clerk.

The clerk says he hit the panic button, alerting police of the situation. He hoped fighting would keep the men in the store until police arrived, but they got away.

Detectives believe this is the sixth robbery at a carryout involving these two suspects. Five happened in south Toledo and one in east Toledo.

Police are concerned because these robberies continue to get more violent.

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
